Time-dependent efficacy of combination of silver-containing hydroxyapatite coating and vancomycin on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation in vitro

چکیده

Abstract Objective We developed a silver-containing hydroxyapatite (Ag-HA) coating to prevent periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is the main PJI-causing bacteria. Previously, we had reported combined effect of Ag-HA and vancomycin (VCM) on MRSA biofilm formation 24 h after inoculation. In this study, investigated time-dependent efficacy VCM Ti discs in vitro by three-dimensional confocal laser scanning microscopic analysis. Results For HA groups, total volumes per area at 96 inoculation were significantly larger than those 48 inoculation, respectively (p < 0.001). contrast, for group, volume was smaller that ( p 0.0001). Moreover, groups Thus, combination might be useful prevention MRSA-associated PJI.

Silver-Containing Hydroxyapatite Coating Reduces Biofilm Formation by Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus In Vitro and In Vivo

Biofilm-producing bacteria are the principal causes of infections associated with orthopaedic implants. We previously reported that silver-containing hydroxyapatite (Ag-HA) coatings exhibit high antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In the present study, we evaluated the effects of Ag-HA coating of implant surfaces on biofilm formation. Titanium disk...

Comparison of Biofilm Formation between Methicillin-Resistant and Methicillin-Susceptible Isolates of Staphylococcus aureus

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the biofilm formation and the prevalence of biofilm-associated genes between the isolates of methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) Staphylococcus aureus. Methods: In total, 209 S. aureus isolates were collected. The antibiotic susceptibility test was conducted using nine antibiotics according to the guidelines of Clinica...

Prevalence of Vancomycin Resistance in Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

Background & Aims: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common pathogens in nosocomial infections. Vancomycin is the most important therapeutic drug of choice for treatment of infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains. Therefore, vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) or vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) strains are warning...

Detection of icaABCD Genes and Biofilm Formation in Clinical Isolates of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Background & Objectives:  Methicillin resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the most important pathogens that causes several nosocomial and community infections. Adhesion to surfaces and biofilm formation is considered main step in staphylococcal infection. The aims of this study were to determine presence oficaABCD genes and relation to the biofilm formation in of...

Biofilm Formation and Detection of IcaAB Genes in Clinical Isolates of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Objective(s) Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an important cause of nosocomial and community infections. Biofilm formation, mediated by a polysaccharide intercellular adhesin (PIA) and encoded by the ica operon, is considered to be an important virulence factor in both S. epidermidis and S. aureus. However, the clinical impact of the ica locus and PIA production is less w...
